CKMB Receives City Flag before Trip to 2023 WAMSB Championships
During his address, the mayor remarked that meeting the young members of the marching band brought back memories of his days at Chien-kuo High School. He congratulated the team for obtaining the opportunity to perform at the competition and reminded them that it is both an honor and a responsibility to represent Taiwan on the global stage. Chiang pointed out that CKMB won third place when they attended the World Music Contest in the Netherlands last year. This time, he believes that the marching band will also show outstanding performances. For this trip, the Department of Education provided financial backing reaching NT$1.6 million and assisted the school in securing a NT$280,000 subsidy from the Ministry of Education. The mayor recalled that while he didn’t have the opportunity to join the marching band as a student, many of his classmates were members of the team. He would often see the classmates practicing gun toss, which takes a lot of effort. The marching band often experience busy summer breaks, with chores ranging from signing up new members, holding boot camps, and practicing in the blazing heat. He invited the public to attend the upcoming performance of CKMB at New Taipei’s Guang-fu Elementary School to appreciate the skills of team members. At the end of his speech, Mayor Chiang encouraged the students using the expression “Home is where the heart is.” He hopes that the students will not only achieve great results, but also bring the warmth and friendliness of Taiwanese people to audiences abroad and let the world see Taiwan.
On July 13, Mayor Chiang Wan-an presented the city flag to the members of the Chien-kuo High School Marching Band (CKMB) during a ceremony at city hall. The team will attend the 2023 WAMSB championships in the US between July 16 and 28.
