The groundbreaking ceremony for the new building housing the Taipei City Vocational Development Institute (VDI) took place in the morning of July 3. On behalf of Mayor Chiang Wan-an, Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan presided over the event in the company of Labor Commissioner Kao Bao-hua and other dignitaries. 

Since the reorganization of the institute in 2013, VDI has been dedicated to assisting local residents in the domain of vocational skill education and career development. In light of the challenges posed by shifting labor market and industry transition, the institute is proactively making plans for a massive renewal. 

The construction project involves three new buildings – a general vocational skill training building, a vocational skill hands-on experience and study hall, and a dormitory for students of the University of Taipei Tianmu Campus. The structures will be outfitted with advanced equipment to assist training in fields such as Information technology, electric vehicle, air conditioning, and multimedia. There is also workspace for businesses catering to the elderly, art and studio gallery, career consulting center, co-working spaces, and more. The complex is slated for completion in June 2027. 

Commissioner Kao remarked that once the overhaul has been completed, students and faculty members will be able to enjoy a quality teaching and living environment, while the neighborhood would benefit from the new vitality made possible by the shared resources with the community. The new buildings will provide VDI, University of Taipei, and local residents a great place for learning and living.

The commissioner also expressed his hope that with the help of new hardware and the institution’s expertise in vocational training, VDI will continue to serve the city and residents by offering top vocational training and career education and achieving new milestones in the field.
