Mayor Presides over Preparedness Conference for Typhoon Doksuri
The Department of Transportation completed the tests on SMS notices for flood gate closures, initiation of red/yellow line parking, and exit-only measure at flood gates. The Police Department also went over measures such as vehicle towing and reporting typhoon damages during patrols. The Department of Rapid Transit Systems implemented surveillance of construction sites and used cameras to monitor workplace safety. Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation went over how it will adjust train services based on the latest weather update. The Department of Civil Affairs noted that there is a total of 18,258 sandbags and 270 pumps across all district emergency response centers. According to the Department of Urban Development, it has carried out inspections of public housing across the city and implemented patrols. The Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) have called off the fireworks this Wednesday and removed the firework platform, firework storage facility, and wharf machineries. During his address, the mayor expressed his gratitude to all agency personnel for making the necessary preparations. While the route of the typhoon might change, all departments should remain prepared and be on alert. He also instructed TPEDOIT and the Media Affairs Division to remind the public to avoid mountainous areas, riverside, and seaside during the typhoon and make necessary preparations.
In the evening of July 24, Mayor Chiang Wan-an arrived at the Taipei Emergency Operation Center to preside over the preparedness conference for Typhoon Doksuri. The meeting included an analysis report by the National Taiwan University Meteorology Team and a briefing on typhoon preparedness by the Disaster Prevention Office. The agency briefed the officials on the preparedness of emergency equipment, maintenance of roadside trees, clearing of ditches, and inspections of major venues such as Taipei Arena and Taipei Music Center.
