Great news from Taipei City’s young athletes! The Changan Junior High School Baseball Team claimed the trophy at the 2023 East Asian U15 Baseball Miyazaki Tournament in Japan. With the matches taking place in mid-August, the Taiwanese athletes emerged as the champion among a pool of competing rivals from Taiwan and South Korea, as well as Japanese teams from Kanto, Tokai, and Kyushu regions.

In addition to winning the championship, team members Chang Yun-jung and Wu Chia-yu were also chosen for the Best Player Award.

The East Asian U15 Baseball Miyazaki Tournament has taken place for many years. Typically, the organizers invite 32 teams from Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. The participating teams are all strong candidates in their respective regions, so the competition is usually quite intense. However, due to the pandemic, the event has not invited foreign teams since 2020. This year marks the first time in the post pandemic era where foreign baseball teams reappeared on the fields.

Other teams from Taiwan which participated in the tournament in Miyazaki include Taichung Municipal Zhongshan Junior High School, Minsheng Junior High School in Chiayi, and New Taipei Municipal Xinpu Junior High School.

Changan Junior High School emerged with two wins and one tie from the bracket comprising Setagaya West, Kyushu Oita, and Nagasaki Higashi. It later defeated New Taipei Xinpu and Fukuoka Chikushino, winning the tickets to the finals against Southern Seoul.

Established under the support of Taipei City Government Baseball Stimulus Project in 2009, the Changan Junior High School Baseball Team lacked practice space in its initial years, forcing the team to rely on the baseball field at Xinsheng Park. However, with financial backing from the Department of Education, it currently utilizes one indoor and one outdoor baseball batting field. Also, thanks to the support from of Taipei Municipal Athletics Federation Baseball Association under Chairperson Chen Yu-mei, the school is able to hire fulltime coach for the team.
