On August 22, Mayor Chiang Wan-an attended the inauguration ceremony for the overhauled back alley and sewage system at Beian Borough. During his address, the mayor expressed his gratitude to former mayor Huang Ta-chou and the members of the city government’s Garden City Commissioner for assisting borough residents in carrying out the project.

The mayor pointed out that today marks the day he returns to his “parental home” – Beian Borough in Zhongshan District. He took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Chief Chen Hsiao-kang of the Borough and local city councilors for securing the necessary resources to transform the back alleys of the community into a beautiful and friendly space.

Chiang remarked that the project integrates images of Jiannan Butterfly Park and heavily relied on the support from each member of the construction team and local representatives. He is especially grateful for the advices from former mayor Huang, who consistently reminded him of the importance of Taipei’s greenification and urban landscape aesthetics.

Sewer system constructions are important project that citizens usually do not see, but are nonetheless very important for cities. Starting in 1972, Taipei City Government embarked on the deployment of its sewer system. As of today, Taipei City boasts a sewage pipe connection rate of 81.54%, which is significantly higher than 41.65% nationwide.

According to the mayor, the project at Beian Borough is also an attempt at integrating sewer system construction with urban aesthetics. He thanked Chief Chen and members of the Garden City Commission for conducting beautification works under the blazing sun to ensure alleyways offer a hospitable and accessible environment. The city government will continue with the endeavor, hoping to spread the success to other districts in Taipei.
