Accompanied by agency staff, Mayor Chiang Wan-an visited the Jianguo Pumping Station and the Primary Pumping Station Management Center on July 25.

Due to the imminent approach of Typhoon Doksuri, the Hydraulics Engineering Office (HEO) announced that it has completed maintenance and inspection works for related equipment and facilities on July 24.

According to HEO, Taipei City boasts the only “Automated Pumping Station Monitoring System” in Taiwan, which automatically activates and turns off the pumps based on the water levels. At the same time, 88 rainwater pumping stations across Taipei has been reorganized under six district pumping station management centers. The mechanisms at these pumping stations can also be activated or deactivated remotely as well. Staff at the Primary Pumping Station Management Center can monitor pumping station operations across these six districts, as well as track the status of all pumping stations in Taipei.

In addition to visiting the pumping station, the mayor also observed how the pumps at Zhongshan, Zhoumei, and Dihua pumping stations can be operated remotely by the staff at the district station management centers after receiving the order from the Pumping Station Management Center.

While the chances of the sea and land typhoon advisory for Taipei City remains low, there is still a chance that the heavy rainfall will have an impact upon Shimen Reservoir, which is already at 95% capacity. Flood discharge may be required, which will lead to a rise to the water level of Tamsui River. That is why the agency have carried out the evacuation of temporary facilities and equipment from riversides parks today.

The agency reminds citizens that there is a chance for Taipei City Government to implement the “Exit Only” measure for riverside parking areas at any time. Starting this year, the city government will begin towing vehicles parked at riverside area outside the flood gates 4 hours after the order has been issued. The public should keep track of the latest updates on the typhoon and flood gate closure.
