The Youth Development and Family Education Center (YDFE) announced that it has included “New Thinking on Education in the Digital Era” as the focus of this year’s parenting education campaign. 

The program brings together resources from school, parents and teachers associations, and various organizations across the private sector to hold diversified classes and fun events targeting entire families of the touchscreen generation. 

Some of the classes in this year’s program include: “New Thinking on 3C Education” family co-learning workshop at Yongjian Elementary School on May 26 and June 3; “What Should Digital Parents Do? New Thinking on 3C Education” at Taipei Public Library Xizhong Branch on June 4, and “Not Pictures Mean No Trouble? Cybersecurity and How to Protect Yourself” at YDFE on June 10. More classes will be announced in the future. 

Research show that the amount of time spent by adults surfing the web via smartphone is no less than those invested by teenagers and children. The program seeks to empower parents with knowledge on digital tools and enhance their digital skills. These are important knowledge in a world where the impact of both social medias and the internet is very real, creating significant influence on aspects such as an individual’s personal characteristics, maturing process, and social environment.   

According to YDFE, the process of digitalization is irreversible, and adults should learn more about our digital environment and be aware of hazards hidden within the online world. The agency calls upon those interested to sign up for classes to establish positive family interactions in the age of information!
