To promote the well-being of immigrant workers, the Foreign and Disabled Labor Office (FDLO) joined hands with Tzu Chi International Medical Association (TIMA) to hold the “Healthcare for Our Foreign Friends in Taipei” volunteer clinic. The event will take place at the indoor area between West 1 Gate and North 3 Gate of Taipei Railway Station on Sunday, August 13.

The collaboration between the two institutions has been held for over 16 years, including 76 sessions and benefiting over 16,000 immigrant workers. However, the clinic has been cancelled for three years due to the pandemic. With the subsiding of COVID-19, the event kicked off again in July of 2023.

Labor Commissioner Kao Bao-hua pointed out that many immigrant workers delay checkups due to lack of time or language barriers. That is why the Department of Labor organized the free clinic as an additional option for foreign friends, dispatching bilingual staff from FDLO to assist communications and medical workers to provide medical consultation. In light of the pandemic’s impact, the event puts a heavy emphasis on the health of employers, care recipients, and immigrant workers. The organizers call upon both immigrant workers and employers to take advantage of the free checkup to protect each other’s health.

Taipei Railway Station – the venue of the clinic – is a place familiar to many immigrant workers. The clinic will be held between 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM, with no preregistration required ahead of time. However, those seeking a checkup should bring ID documents with them. Services provided include standard health checkup, as well as consultations in the fields of ophthalmology, dermatology, dentistry, otolaryngology, internal medicine, gynecology, orthopedics, psychiatry, and Chinese medicine.

The organizer is also partnering with a massage therapy shop at Taipei Railway Station and giving away vouchers to clinic visitors. The vouchers can be exchanged for a free 15-minute massage session and is available in limited supply only.
