2014 Dog Sports Championship to Take Place This Weekend

To raise awareness on weight control for dogs, Taipei City Animal Protection Office (APO) will join hands with Pets Foods & Appliances Association R.O.C. to hold the first Taipei Dog Sports Championship at the dog run area at Yingfeng Riverside Park over the weekend of November 15.

According to APO, the carnival will feature fun sports competition for canine friends, including frisbee catch, retrieving runs, racing, and more. In addition, the organizer will also provide body fat percentage measurement services for your pet dog—600 openings are available each day.

APO noted that a 30-second promotional clip on the event will be aired on the MRT platform screens. The competitions and every thrilling moment of the carnival will also be documented by GoPro—the manufacturer of cameras made for extreme actions. The video will be published on the activity’s website for public access to promote the importance of keeping your furkids fit.

Veterinarian Yang Hsiao-po pointed out that overweight poses health risks for pets, leading to complications such as skin diseases, arthritis, and diabetes. Pet owners should pay more attention to the health of their furry amigos, helping the animals fight against obesity through dietary change and exercise.

Visitors to the event are encouraged to purchase the fukubukuro (goodie bag) prepared by the organizer. Limited to 500 bags, the NT$500 packages contain coupons for a variety of pet merchandise ranging from NT$500 to NT$4000. All the proceeds will be directed to Help-Save-A-Pet-Fund Taiwan for stray animals rescue.
