The 2023 Taipei City Cup Boxing Tournament came to a successful conclusion at the Taipei Gymnasium on August 20. The event was organized by the Department of Sports and implemented by the Taipei City Boxing Association.

A total of 11 teams from Taiwan and abroad participated in this year’s matches. The home team claimed five gold and four bronze medals, followed by the joint team representing Hsinchu, Kaohsiung, and Hualian which brought home three gold, two silver, and one bronze medals.

The first-place among international teams is South Korea, taking one gold and three silver medals. Athletes from the Philippines secured one gold, one silver, and four bronze medals, while the Kazakhstan team won one gold medal.

Taiwanese athletes took first place in all 5 categories of the women’s division. For the men’s divisions, Filipino boxer Aaron Jude Bado came out on the top for 51 kg; local boxer Hong Chuang-hsun won the gold medal for 57 kg; Korean boxer Kim Jun Ki claimed the top honor for 63.5 kg; Kazakhstan’s Darkhan Duisebay brought home the gold for 71 kg; Taipei’s Kan Chia-wei reigned in the 80 kg group, and He Shao-hui ranked first in the 92 kg competition.

Bado was also chosen as the best male boxer, while Wu Shih-yu won the honor of best female boxer. The Best Referee Award went to Taiwanese referee Chen Jen-chih and Japanese referee Hirayama Noriaki.

Many Taipei City athletes took part in the tournament to acquire invaluable experience in competing with foreign contestants. Taking advantage of the boxing matches, they can better prepare themselves for subsequent games such as the upcoming Hanzhou Asian Games (between September 23 and October 8) and the 2023 National Games in Tainan City (from October 21 through 26).
