Mayor: Strengthening Science Education Allows Students to be more Competitive
The mayor pointed out that he fully supports science education and hopes that kids can start at an early age. While he himself is not familiar with quantum computing, he believes that the field is an important global trend and students should be exposed to the subject when they have the opportunity. Citing the recent speech delivered by Nvidia’s co-founder Jensen Huang at National Taiwan University, Chiang pointed out that the CEO mentioned the recent development of artificial intelligence being an important future trend many times. Meanwhile, Professor Chang also covered both the history and future of such development in his address. For the city government, how to prepare students for this trend and help them sharpen their competitiveness in this field will be an important objective for city hall. The mayor pointed out that the new textbook on quantum computing will greatly help both instructors and students. City hall seeks to create an ideal environment for acquiring new knowledge through providing students and faculty with teaching guides and materials. It hopes to work with more private organizations, academia, and industries to make both students and the city more competitive. Chiang ended his speech by expressing his gratitude to all the principals, teachers, and association heads for their effort in creating a useful tool that will help the new generation gain an edge in future global competitions.
Mayor Chiang Wan-an attended the press conference for the release of Taiwan’s first quantum computing textbook targeting high school kids. The book is the brainchild of professor Chang Ching-ray, professor Fu Chao-ming, assistant professor Huang Tsung-wei, and Hon Hai Education Foundation.
