The Parking Management and Development Office (PMDO) announced that starting July 10, parking squares for motorcycles (with the exception of limited time parking squares) across the city will be opened to mini electric two-wheel vehicles with license plate.

According to the agency, mini electric two-wheelers with license plate will be able to park for free, in accordance with local regulations which encourage the use of pollution-free vehicles. Owners are encouraged to apply for a license plate for their vehicle at the local Motor Vehicles Office (MVO) to take advantage of this offer.

Placed under the license management system of MVO on November 20, 2022, owners of mini electric two-wheel vehicles are given a 2-year grace period to register and pick up vehicle license, enroll in compulsory automobile liability insurance, and undergo all inspections required for his or her vehicle.

PMDO pointed out that the following two-wheelers are stilled banned from using paid motorcycle parking spaces (including recessed parking area along sidewalks, sidewalk parking space, and limited time parking square): mini electric two-wheelers without license plate, bicycles, and electric bicycles. Violators will be fined in accordance with Clause 1 under Section 1, Article 4 of Taipei city Self-government Ordinance on Handling Vehicle Obstructing Road Traffic.

The agency reminds the public that individuals riding a mini electric 2-wheelers must be at least 14 years old, wear helmet, carry no passengers, and maintain a speed under 25 km/h. Owners are prohibited from modifying the electronic control system and vehicle specs as well.
