On July 11, Mayor Chiang Wan-an attended the opening ceremony of the 2023 4^th World Deaf Table Tennis Championship and World Deaf Youth Table Tennis Championships in Taipei. The opening event also saw table tennis player Lin Yun-ju leading the Chinese Taipei team as the athletes entered the ceremony venue.

During his address, the mayor welcomed table tennis players from around the world to Taipei City. This is the first major international deaf sports tournament to be hosted by Taipei City after a blank of 5 years. 

Chiang took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) and all entities who assisted city hall in the bid to bring the World Deaf Table Tennis Championships to Taipei. He also thanked the Ministry of Education’s Sports Administration, the Chinese Taipei Deaf Sports Federation, and the Chinese Taipei Table Tennis Association for their invaluable support in bringing the important event and top players to Taiwan.

According to the mayor, Taipei City Government has accumulated much experience in organizing international sports events over the years, including the 2009 Deaflympics and 2019 World Deaf Badminton Championships. The city takes pride in its accomplishments in these competitions – from quality of games to services provided.

The mayor stressed that Taipei City boasts top quality sports venues, rich sports resources, and a large pool of talents. It is also a place where disabled individuals can find warmth and hospitality. Once again, he welcomes the players from around the world to Taipei City and wished them success and outstanding performances at the championships.
