On July 10, Mayor Chiang Wan-an joined New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi at the fifth work meeting for the upcoming 2025 Summer World Masters Games. Chiang noted that he is glad to see the two municipalities join hands in hosting the 2024 World Masters Games. The processing of winning the bid to host the games was challenging, especially since all the presentation and contract finalization had to be conducted online – even the announcement press conference – due to the pandemic.

The mayor expressed his gratitude to all the partners and staff members who have contributed to the application process. He also thanked the Sports Administration and other entities for their support. Taipei and New Taipei City won the bid against Paris and Perth to secure the rights to host the games.  

Chiang remarked that there will be an estimated 40,000 athletes, coaches, family members and friends from 110 countries around the world attending the 2025 World Masters Games. With additional support from nearby municipalities such as Yilan, Taoyuian, and Hsinchu, he hopes that top-level venues and exceptional hospitality of the people will provide visitors a wonderful experience during their stay. 

He added that the upcoming games will integrate the concepts of tourism, digital, green, sustainable, and friendliness, hoping to stimulate tourism and the economy for Greater Taipei and surrounding municipalities during the event. The meeting covered topics ranging from the status of ongoing preparations and reports from observers which visited events held in other countries.

At the end of the meeting, the mayor expressed his hope that everything will go forward as planned, ensuring success for the World Masters Games in 2025. He expressed his gratitude to committee members for offering valuable advices and suggestions.
