Mayor Visits Taipei Zoo, Takes Maokong Gondola

Mayor Ko Wen-je and his wife Chen Pei-chi visited Taipei Zoo and took a ride on the Maokong Gondola on January 25.
Arriving at Taipei Zoo in the afternoon, the mayor noted that he hasn’t visited the facility for over 20 years. He is here because city agencies hope that his visit will encourage parents to bring their kids to visit the zoo during winter break.
Chen remarked that she is usually the one who brought the kids to the zoo, and this was the first for her and her husband to visit the zoo together. Noting the mild weather, she called upon parents to take their children outside and visit the zoo.
The two strolled down the African Animal Area to see the lion, African elephant, and hippopotamus. They continued their trip with a stop at Formosan Animal Area to watch the black bear and otter. The zoo also took the opportunity to introduce a cute 5-month-old baby pangolin nurtured by the staff to the couple.
When asked about what he thought when young children recognize him as Taipei’s mayor, Ko said that he is not surprised because nowadays even two and three-year-old kids watch TV. He humorously remarked that he will be a cute animal for the day.
