Disinfection Efforts at MRT Stations Stepped up

A worker disinfects the staircase at one of the MRT stations In response to the fact that patients diagnosed with COVID-19 acute respiratory disease have traveled aboard the public transport system, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) has stepped up disinfection efforts at various stations including MRT Taipei Main Station, MRT Shilin Station, MRT Zhuwei Station, MRT Longshan Temple Station, MRT Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station, MRT Dongmen Station, MRT Dapinglin Station, and MRT Jingan Station. Passengers are urged once again to wear a mask and seek immediate medical attention if they feel unwell.

The TRTC emphasized that frontline staff at MRT stations, Maokong Gondola, Taipei Children’s Amusement Park, and Taipei Arena are all required to wear a mask while on duty, and trains are disinfected before departure every day and every 8 hours. Furthermore, equipment frequently touched by passengers at MRT stations, Taipei City Mall, Maokong Gondola, Taipei Arena, Taipei Children’s Amusement Park, and Beitou Resort – such as automatic ticket vending machines, top-up machines, ATM screens and buttons, toilet seats and door handles, windows and table surfaces at information counters, escalator handrails, and elevator buttons – are disinfected once every 4 hours.

In addition, rubbing alcohol spray bottles will be available at the information counters of MRT stations, Taipei Children’s Amusement Park, Maokong Gondola, and Taipei Arena for the public’s convenience starting on February 19.

The company would like to remind passengers to wear a facemask if they have flu or are feeling unwell and to wash their hands frequently. Moreover, one should also refrain from coming in contact with wild animals and acute respiratory disease patients, as well as adopt proper protection measures. If you exhibit symptoms such as fever or cough, please contact the health authority or the toll-free 1922 disease prevention hotline and seek medical attention immediately.

For additional details, please contact the TRTC’s 24-hour customer service hotline (02) 218-12345 and 1999 Taipei Citizen Hotline (for callers outside of Taipei, please dial 02-27208889) or refer to the company’s official website (https://www.metro.taipei/).
