Since 2017, DOIT has held free digital/ITC-related classes at community centers and borough offices, targeting members of disadvantaged groups such as senior citizens, indigenous people, and new immigrants. The classes feature subjects such as: photography and image editing; smartphone and computer operations; e-commerce; useful apps for day-to-day life; mobile phone photography; LINE applications for daily life; watching on-demand video on mobile devices, and security tips for surfing the Internet. This allows learners to strengthen mastery over digital tools and to secure more convenience in their day-to-day life.
Starting 2023, the agency selected 6 city administrative districts (Wanhua, Daan, Xinyi, Songshan, Shilin, and Zhongshan) which have a higher percentage of senior citizens over the age of 65 for the pilot program “Taipei Digital Assistant.” Under the initiative, the city government utilizes local borough offices and community care stations as base of operations for neighborhood volunteers, who can assist residents with issues spanning digital tools to smart technology and answer digital/IT-related inquiries during one-to-one consultations.
