Open Government

To promote the open data policy under the principle of open government, Taipei City Government integrated open data from affiliated institutions under a single portal website, allowing citizens to browse the collection and software developers to utilize the database.

Taipei City Government is the first government agency in the nation to implement an open data policy. First introduced in September, 2011, the former platform was upgraded to the “Grand Data Platform” (https://data.taipei/)(Chinese) in June of 2019. Citizens and companies can access and utilize datasets grouped into 22 categories on the platform including transportation, finance, public works, medical care, statistics, and culture.

With the rapid growth in open data applications, the demand for quality data has seen a significant rise. Taipei City Government established a set of standards for open data, including aspects spanning format to coding to management. This ensures that data from respective agencies have a set standard and the departments will continue to carry out scheduled inventory check, thereby comprehensively improving the quality of the open data.

In addition to the continual upgrade in both quantity and quality of open data, this strategy ensures the enhancement of city employees’ capability in digital governance and the promotion of open data policy and applications to citizens. Through public-private-partnership, we seek to encourage value-added through innovation and to provide citizens with convenient services, thereby creating a win-win-win scenario for government, industry, and residents.
